Not Her Own

Not her own

She cares for children, not her own.
Forever in her heart, temporarily in her home.
Her warm embrace heals their scars
She was a wish from falling stars

She cares for children, not her own
They leave their trace throughout her home
Marks on the windows, doors and walls
Daily reminders why she takes the calls

The marks can be washed, scrubbed or painted away
But they come with scars not easily erased

The marks can be washed, scrubbed or painted away
But they come with scars not easily erased

She cares for children, not her own
All so different, but for each, love’s unknown
Helping them overcome abuse and neglect
Standing among others vowing to protect

She cares for children, not her own
Giving them love they weren’t shown
They may leave her at any time
Always in her heart, forever on her mind

The marks can be washed, scrubbed or painted away
But they come with scars not easily erased

The marks can be washed, scrubbed or painted away
But they come with scars not easily erased
